Kittens were all short coated
silver cats with dark eye lining
and green eyes and were called
Burmillas.

From the second generation
fluffies appeared and were
called Long Haired Burmillas.

In the United Kingdom
Some breeders decided to mate
Long Haired Burmillas back to
the Burmese, they called the
kittens Tiffanies. Tiffanies are
very popular in Europe and New
Zealand, there are some bred in
USA. Tiffanies come in a very
large variety of colours and
patterns. In the UK the standard
allows both green and golden eye
colour, NZ allows only the
golden.

In Australia
The idea for the Australian
Tiffanie was first discussed by
two Burmilla breeders, Jon
Sternbeck and Robyn Moller (now
deceased). Shortly after a
number of breeders got together
and decided to develop the Long
Haired Burmilla by going back to
the Chinchilla Persian. A
breeding program was prepared by
Jon Sternbeck ( geneticist) and
submitted to Waratah National
Cat Alliance, as this
organisation is well known for
its progressive and innovative
philosophy and would consider
the proposal. It was considered
by the Committee and the
Genetics Committee and
subsequently approved. At this
time Waratah National Cat
Alliance is the only
organisation to recognise
Australian Tiffanies, Long
Haired Burmillas and Tiffanies
as three separate breeds, each
having their own specific breed
standard.
